I love Bill Hollman's band and arrangements. This chart swings from start to finish and everything between is groovy, magical, musical joy. Big band jazz is greeeeaat!
St Thomas is my all time jazz instrumental favourite, devised by the tenor sax player Sonny Rollins and as a child was sung to him by his mother in the Virgin Islands, all good stuff. The song originally goes back to 1776 as an English folk song named the Lincolnshire Poacher, see it in abundance on You Tube. It's come a long way and still going strong, here quite nicely by the late Bill Holman in 1988.
